• President’s Address

Welcome to the official website of Jaw War, the biggest and most prestigious public speaking tournament in Sub-Saharan Africa.
For over 11 years, Jaw War has stood as a symbol of intellectual rigor, passionate discourse, and cultural pride within the University of Ibadan. With an average of over 3,000 students in attendance at every round, it has become more than just a tournament—it is a tradition, a festival of minds, and a melting pot of ideas that shape student thought and public opinion.
Jaw War is an annual public speaking tournament hosted by The Literary and Debating Society, University of Ibadan (TLDS). It primarily features two major internal categories: the Inter-Hall and Inter-Faculty debates, where all undergraduate Halls of Residence and Faculties battle to be the champions of rhetoric. In addition, we host a Nationals Category, which brings in teams from universities across Nigeria to compete on our stage, and a Rookie Category designed to spotlight fresh students who are taking their first steps into the world of competitive public speaking.
This website is more than a digital platform—it is a representation of what the Jaw War culture stands for. Here, you will find everything from match fixtures, results, and speaker rankings to news, archives, and multimedia content that keeps you plugged into every moment of the tournament.
This year, Jaw War 2025, we are taking bold steps toward global visibility. Our vision is to present Jaw War to the world—to tell the story of African brilliance, youthful audacity, and the power of orature beyond the shores of Nigeria. We believe our voices belong on the world stage, and this website is our first bridge toward that future.
Warm regards,
BABATIMEHIN Peace(Asiwaju)
